Just before we left the glacier, the guides broke out a card table and two bottles of Argentine Scotch whiskey. For those who wanted it with a little branch water, our guide took a stainless pitcher, walked over to one of the many clear blue rivulets of melted glacial ice, dipped it in and filled it up. Aside from some windblown soil on the surface, glacial ice is free of bacterial and toxins, and is about as pure as untreated water can get. Oh, and for those who wanted scotch on the rocks, our "bartender" bent down and picked up some glacial ice cubes. It was a fitting treat after an hour of exploration.
