Rolling hills of Argentine Patagonia

Rolling hills of Argentine Patagonia

This view of the steppes is from the south shore of Lago Argentino, looking east toward El Calafate, just a dozen miles away. El Calafate is a mountain-climber's paradise with climbing and hiking outfitters and restaurants lining its Main Street. The town is named for the calafate plant which produces fruits similar to blueberries and which is ubiquitous around the land in this picture. We landed from Buenos Aires at the town airport, a jumping off point to Patagonia from all over Argentina and Chile.
